Chin-Tian–Pi-Di (Lift up Heaven and Split Land)

At 1:47 on September 21, 1999, a major earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter Scale occurred.
The epicenter was in Nantou County.
The rupture belt caused damage as far as 80 km away, with Central Taiwan the most seriously affected area.
The 921 Earthquake, also called the Jiji Earthquake, has been the most devastating disaster in Taiwan after war.

The stream bed, bank, and forests were covered with numerous huge rocks.
This massive rock in particular measured 3 meters high with the circumference of the length of more than ten men’s open-arms.
After the earthquake, the rock broke into three pieces, presenting the tremendous damaging power of the major earthquake.
The 921 Earthquake was a serious disaster in Taiwan, and it has been difficult to recover from.
The beauty of the broken rocks reminds us of the precious lessons brought by the earthquake.
