Ancestor Tunnel

Walk upward from the Songlong Waterfall, along the Tianyen Trail,
and through the tunnel, and you will feel like you’re entering a refreshingly different world.
Suddenly you will see mountain ranges, lush forests, white clouds, clean streams in which fish swim,
and huge rocks on which birds chirp. This paradise-like scenery comes through the eyes, and soothes your spirit.
Our ancestors dug this tunnel to transport timber using wooden horses.

It was a toilsome and dangerous job to transport timber, which usually required the cooperation of two people working together.
When going up, one pulled the wooden horse up in the front as the other pushed from behind.
In going down, one worked hard to abate the momentum in the front as the other pulled back to slow down the wooden horse in the back.
The tunnel measures 170cm in height, 100cm in width, and 20m in length. At that time, the cave was dug by hand, taking over a year to complete.
With a humble and grateful heart, we recall the hardship of our ancestors.
